- Title
Does the pulmonary artery catheter still have a role in the perioperative period?
- Authors
COWIE, B. S.
- Abstract
The article discusses the role of pulmonary artery catheter (PAC) in the perioperative period in major cardiac and non-cardiac patients. According to the author, the role of PAC in monitoring hemodynamic variables in perioperative and critically ill patients would bring benefit to the patients. However, the author adds that there is no clear benefit nor harm associated with the use of PAC in non-cardiac high risk surgery, patients with heart failure, or critically ill patients with sepsis or acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS).
