- Abstract
The article discusses the relation of anatomy to theatre performance in the Renaissance era. Topics include the relation of early modern anatomy to epistemology, the nature of dissections as public exhibitions, and the creation of anatomy theatres for such dissections. The writings of anatomist Charles Estienne are addressed in relation to the technique of dissection. The role of evidence and demonstration in anatomical theatre is discussed.
