- Authors
Baumrin, Seth
- Abstract
This article focuses on Jerzy Grotowski, a Polish theater director and his artistic freedom. For this article, the author interviewed more than 30 people as well as commissioned translations of Polish texts which addressed the political life of Grotowski. According to the author, the Institute of National Remembrance houses the Communist Party records on Grotowski. In 1964, Grotowski's company, the Laboratory Theatre of the 13 Rows, worked on the play "The Hamlet Study" which was presented only 21 times and was later on removed from the repertory. In 1965, he moved from Opole to Wroclaw, Poland which is said to have marked a great leap forward for the Theatre. It highlights his active participation in theatre and Party politics in Kraków.
