- Abstract
This article describes three instances of the "Theater of the Oppressed," series of experimental theater performances in Israel, Liberia, and Iraq between 2001-2004, as facilitated by the American drama company the Dakota Theatre Caravan. The dramatic workshop's model is outlined and its social aspects are analyzed, particularly its ability to draw out personal narratives and experiences from the audiences. The method's interaction with those inside the military instabilities and conflicts of the regions are described.
