- Abstract
Acquired Platelet Dysfunction with Eosinophilia (APDE) is a condition that can easily be mistaken with immune thrombocytopenic purpura, Von Willebrand’s disease or non-accidental injury in children. Clinically patients share a similar presentation which is bruises on the extremities, body, and face. However, these conditions have different laboratory findings and different approach of management. We reported a 6 year and 3 months old boy with bruises but otherwise well. Initially, it was suspected as immune thrombocytopenic purpura, however later a diagnosis of APDE was entertained in view of a normal platelet count on peripheral blood film and high initial eosinophils. The coagulation results were normal. The percentage of eosinophilia was exceptionally high despite no history of atopy or worm infestation. One needs to consider eosinophilia and platelet dysfunction in a relatively well patient who come with bruises.
