- Abstract
Geological Heritage is the part of geodiversity that has unique and exceptional value. In other words, they are geological, geomorphological, hydrological, and soil resources that contain immeasurable value for society and, as such, need to be protected and conserved by legal instruments aimed at the common good, in other words, by public policies. Because of their social importance, be it scientific, educational, historical, and/or tourist, these geological elements need to be on the political agenda and not just the biotic environment. The aim of this study is to analyze Brazilian political proposals through Bills of Law (PL) which are related to the conservation of geological heritage and to investigate their content and repercussions on society. The research is bibliographical, bibliometric, and qualitative in nature with priority given to documentary content and netnographic analysis. The focus of this study is on the legislative proposals linked to the conservation of geological heritage and their impact on society. In other words, the data was initially collected from these legislative proposals on the Chamber of Deputies website and then the exposure, effects, and repercussions on society of the proposals that were approved, i.e., those that became laws, were sought by searching on the Google platform. The results show that in the content of the legislative proposals and laws, the conservation of geological heritage is argued and justified, but it is, in fact, an indirect concern and dependent on the tourism and biodiversity variables. In other words, these latter two elements have more value when it comes to conserving geological heritage.
