- Title
PSYCHOLOGICAL ASSESSMENT OF THE NONVERBAL CHILD.
- Authors
Allerland, Melvin E.
- Abstract
The article discusses the challenges posed by the psychological evaluation of the nonverbal child, which focus primarily on the preponderance of tests and methods that depend on language. It assumes that the linguistics of the child are but a small proportion of his or her overall behavior, and recommends three methods the psychologist might employ to gain etiological information about the condition. These are: parental reports, clinical observations, and actual testing procedures. The author lists some of the more frequently used non-verbal psychometric tests, including the Arthur Point Scale of Performance and the Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children, from which test items can be selected by the examining psychologist.
