- Abstract
Há uma carência de pesquisas sobre o perfil e o cuidado dos cavalos que são utilizados em serviços assistidos por equinos (SAE). Além disso, é necessário entender melhor as razões relacionadas aos problemas de saúde que podem surgir nesses animais. Uma pesquisa online foi enviada a todos os centros de equoterapia afiliados à Associação Brasileira de Equoterapia (n = 369) entre setembro e dezembro de 2022. A pesquisa incluiu 10 perguntas sobre o programa SAE, 10 sobre manejo de saúde de cavalos e seis sobre a demografia dos cavalos. Um total de 65 (17,6%) centros responderam à pesquisa. Esses centros foram responsáveis por 393 cavalos (6,0 ± 5,1); 65,4% machos castrados, 32,8% éguas e 1,8% garanhões, com idades entre 6,3 e 22,5 anos. Os cavalos mais comuns foram os de sela (60%), seguidos por Quarto de Milha (31%), cavalo de tração (4%), Pônei (3%) e Puro Sangue (2%). Do total de cavalos utilizados nesses centros, 43% foram comprados especificamente para o SAE, 41% foram doados e os demais foram alugados (15,4%). Os entrevistados foram solicitados a relatar a saúde do cavalo; a dor nas costas correlacionou-se positivamente com a claudicação dos membros torácicos (p < 0,01, r = 0,511) e pélvicos (p < 0,01, r = 0,411), abscesso no casco (p = 0,020, r = 0,256) ou rachaduras (p = 0,033, r = 0,229) e idade média (p = 0,014, r = 0,271), e negativamente correlacionada com a frequência de atendimento odontológico (p = 0,018, r = -0,261). Esta pesquisa fornece informações sobre cavalos dedicados à SAE no Brasil e destaca correlações entre as condições de saúde, manejo e cuidados de saúde dos cavalos.
