- Abstract
Creatine is an organic compound that can be synthesized in the body endogenously, or it can be obtained through food, being used as an ergogenic supplement to improve physical performance and has gained prominence in the field of bodybuilding. The present study aimed to analyze, through a literature review, the effect of using creatine on the performance of bodybuilders. To develop the work, an integrative literature review was carried out, in which both the analysis and synthesis of data extracted from the articles were carried out in a descriptive way, making it possible to observe, count, describe and classify the data, with the aim of gathering the knowledge produced on the topic explored in the review. The following were used as a search base: Google Scholar, PubMed and Scielo, from 2016 to 2024. using the terms: creatine, strength, hypertrophy and supplementation. Through the articles found, after analyzing the studies found, it is concluded that creatine is capable of promoting the maximization of strength and the increase in muscle mass, mainly in association with resistance training and a balanced diet.
