- Abstract
Soap-based composite body wash combines those advantages of both surfactant-type body wash and soap-based body wash. However, during the production of the soap-based composite body wash, traditional one-step saponification might have irritation to eyes, mucous membranes and respiratory tract, because the fatty acids therein would volatize when heated. Moreover, high-temperature saponification reaction takes long time and much energy. In this work, the body wash was manufactured via two-step saponification, in which decyl glucoside (a nonionic surfactant stable in alkaline conditions) was added in alkali liquor. The final results indicate that it is feasible to apply two-step saponification in the manufacture of soap-based composite body wash. It can effectively improve the reaction rate of saponification and save the production time.
