- Authors
Rogers, David S.; Green, Howard L.
- Abstract
The article discusses a study pertaining to U.S. food expenditure patterns. Researchers evaluated data collected by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics which detailed consumer expenditures from the period of 1972-1974. U.S. food expenditures declined during this period as a portion of total consumer expenditures. The proportion of total food expenditures accounted for by meals prepared at home also declined. Analysts say the factors of most significance when determining food expenditure levels are income, family size, age of the head of household, and geographic location.
