- Abstract
Art gives expression to but also shapes identities. This text shows how this phenomenon manifested in Quebec in the second half of the 20th century and what can be expected for the coming years. Over the decades, the diverse artistic genres, disciplines and practices have given voice to social and artistic utopias, which in turn reveal the many facets of the unfolding of Quebec identity. The 1960s was characterized by a social utopia carried by words, while the 1980s displayed a more artistic vision involving movement. These utopias contributed to building a collective identity and its understanding of citizenship. This occurs first on the basis of references to history and memory, both temporal characteristics, followed by spatial references. The 2000s, for its part, are characterized by a political utopia of diversity.
