- Abstract
To explore the local feed resources, this study was to evaluate the proper utilization of two high quantity by-products, regrowth rice plant silage (RRS), in diets for Holstein lactating cows. A CRD with 2-wks of covariate adjustment was adopted and repeat once. A total of 21 Holstein lactating cows were assigned into three groups receiving diets containing 0 (control), 3.5 or 4.5 kg (as fed basis) of RRS a day a cow for 25 days. Results showed that the daily dry matter intakes of three groups reached 21.09, 21.07, and 21.6 kg. Daily milk yields were 25.9, 26.6, and 27.0 kg, respectively. Milk fat, lactose, protein, and SNF contents were similar among groups. Income over feed cost of cows fed RRS 3.5 kg and RRS 4.5 kg increased 6% and 5% when compared with that of the control group. In conclusion, RRS could be an alternative feed source for lactating Holstein cows. A diet with 3.5 kg of RRS is recommended.
