- Abstract
The article highlights tragedies in the U.S. that are affecting the welfare of children and their families as of May 2013. Fifteen of the worst 25 mass shootings in the last 50 years have taken place in the U.S., according to the "TIME" NewsFeed. According to the National Center for Injury Prevention and Control, 35.6 percent of women and 28.5 percent of men in the U.S. have experienced rape, physical violence, and/or stalking by an intimate partner in their lifetime. The author claims media coverage of these tragedies does not raise the level of serious consideration, since crimes continue to happen in the country despite the U.S. projecting itself as the guardian of peace around the world.
