- Abstract
Introduction: A few studies have explored the relationship between the major types of Stressful Life Events (SLEs) included family conflicts and Early Marriage (EM) with suicide. We assessed associations between SLEs and suicide, SAs risk in comparing with a control group. Methods: This case control study was used data from Suicidal Behaviors (SBs) of registration system in East Azer Province among three groups of controls (n=201) and case groups (SAs=154 and suicides=32). A valid life event questionnaire was used to assess SLEs in the last year. Control group was considered reference category for study groups comparing. Multiple logistic regressions were used to estimate the Adjusted Odds Ratios (AORs) for suicide and SAs risk. Results: Suicides had the most SLEs score in comparing SAs and control groups and a significant trend was also to be found between SLEs numbers and suicide risk (P>0.001). Among SLEs types, family conflicts, EM, financial problems, and expose to the new conditions were increased risk of suicide and SAs. In comparing SLEs types risk, family conflicts in suicides 4.46 (CI: 2.01 - 9.9) and financial problems 7.93 (CI: 2.12 - 24.66) in SAs had the highest AORs. Conclusion: SLEs management and programming to reduce this negative events by health systems are imperative in suicide prevention.
