- Abstract
The name Santolina chamaecyparissus subsp. squarrosa has been used for years to name a plant with a wide distribution in the eastern half of the Iberian Peninsula and southeastern France. The study of the nomenclature and taxonomy of the complex S. chamaecyparissus L. and its related taxa has allowed to conclude that the Candolle's name S. chamaecyparissus var. squarrosa should be considered as a homotypic synonym of S. villosa Mill., which is currently accepted to refer to plants from the center and south of the Iberian Peninsula. In rank of species, S. ericoides Poir. is the name that can be used to name the taxon that was known as Candolle's name.
