- Abstract
Photo allergic reactions to Musk Ambrette (MA) have recently been described. MA is probably the most important of the artificial nitro musks. MA is used as a fixative in perfume formation in concentrations from 1 to as high as 15 percent. It is the only nitro musk recognized as safe for food flavors in the U.S. The normal concentration in the finished product is in the range of 0.01 to 10 ppm. MA has been used in truce amounts in dentrifice flavors as well. MA gave a positive reaction. In order to exclude a possible photo reaction, the patch test was applied. This confirmed the assumption that this patient had a positive plain patch test with MA.
