- Abstract
An essay is presented on poetic language used by English poet Gerard Manley Hopkins that demonstrated linking of prosodic practice and theory of Hopkins to ideas of religious and national culture and identity. It mentions that Hopkins's fascination with Old English incantations and states that his representation of working men working showed complex symbols of the ideal Christian English state. It also highlights influence of British poet William Barnes on writings of Hopkins.
