- Authors
Diefendorf, Barbara B.
- Abstract
An essay is presented which discusses the role that French religious wars between Catholics and Protestants, known as the Wars of Religion, played in the putative destruction of communities in France from the late 1550s through the mid 1570s. The role that the French King Charles IX played in attempts to prevent religious violence, including what are known as his edicts of pacification, is discussed.
