- Abstract
This research has made more parallel the observed and reported data about the quality of teacher-child interactions in preschool education. The Classroom Assessment Scoring System (CLASS) was used, which includes three areas: emotional support, classroom organization, and instructional support. The sample to the study is composed of 12 kindergarten classes; observations were first conducted in each classroom, to examine the quality of interactions. Then, semi-structured interviews were conducted with each teacher who identified their stated practices about the three domains of the quality of interactions. The data from these observations indicate that the "classroom organization" shows the highest level of quality, in addition to being the most revealed by teachers. Moreover, the results show an average score of low-quality-related instructional support in observed practices; moreover, this area is rarely mentioned by the teachers. These results suggest that discussions of professional development are needed in order to promote the quality of interactions in kindergarten.
