- Abstract
The article describes the case of a 47-year-old male with acute myeloid leukemia who developed ecthyma gangrenosum (EG) on the dorsum of his right hand due to Klebsiella pneumoniae and Streptococcus vestibularis. EG is a cutaneous infection most commonly linked with Pseudomonas bacteremia. Dermatology consultation was requested because the ulceration was not improving. Histology showed vascular necrosis with few inflammatory cells but many surrounding bacteria.
