- Abstract
in the first part of the novel La vorágine, the protagonist, Arturo Cova, introduces the reader to the landscape and culture of the Llanos of Casanare, a region perceived as wild and marginalized. The poet positively values some Spanish legacies of the llanero culture like regional Spanish language, the music, some cattle ranching activities and horse breaking, thus he incorporates the Llanos to the nation as an imagined community. On the contrary, indigenous legacies like conuco farming and shamanism are underestimated while the living indigenous people are presented as savages who remain excluded from the rest of the nation.
