- Abstract
The author discusses the debate over the cultural and ethnic origins of the late Canadian writer Mordecai Richler's works. The issue was posed at a plenary panel for "The Richler Challenge" conference which was held at the McGill Institute for the Study of Canada on March 18 and 19, 2004. It was also discussed in the "Where Are the Voices Coming From? Canadian Culture and the Legacies of History" by Coral Ann Howells and Peter Noble. The author believes that Richler have had a unique role in the Canadian literary sector.
