- Abstract
The article analyzes several poems by Edmund Spenser, including "Epithalamion," "The Faerie Queene," and "Colin Clouts Come Home Againe". Particular focus is given to Spenser's depiction of Irish speech. The author examines English characterizations of Irish speech as inarticulate and discusses the relationship between Irish and Anglo-Norman speech. Topics include English concepts of civilization and barbarism, war cries, and the word "hubbub".
