- Abstract
This article discusses research into the prevention of ventilator-associated pneumonia (VAP) with the use of a silver-coated endotracheal tube. The study reports that the patients intubated with ventilators had lower incidences of VAP. Levels of risk reduction for VAP are noted and safety concerns that could accompany the use of silver in intubation are addressed. These results are related to other studies that attempted to prevent the formation of biofilms in endotracheal tubes, which researchers believe will help to relieve the bacterial burden of intubated patients.
