- Abstract
This article presents the results of follow-ups from the Acute Catheterization and Urgent Intervention Triage Strategy (ACUITY) Trial where moderate and high risk patients with acute coronary syndromes (ACS) underwent early invasive treatment with the thrombin inhibitor bivalirudin or a heparin-based regimen. The objective of this trial was to determine the one year ischemic outcomes for the patients in the trial. At a 30 day follow-up patients given the bivalirudin treatment had non-inferior rates of adverse ischemic events with reduced rates of major bleeding. At one year, the study found no difference in the rates of ischemia or mortality among the treatments offered.
