- Abstract
The authors report the findings of their study to develop and validate algorithms of cardiovascular risk in women since traditionally, cardiovascular risk prediction for women has largely been based on traditional factors. They evaluated 35 factors among 24,558 initially healthy U.S. women 45 years or older who were followed for an average of 10.2 years for incidence of cardiovascular events. The authors developed two clinical algorithms for cardiovascular risk prediction that reclassifies 40% to 50% of women at intermediate risk to either lower or higher risk, which could have an immediate effect on cardiovascular disease prevention. Their Reynolds Risk Score is available at http://www.reynoldsriskscore.org.
