- Title
CHAPTER 2: J.L. Austin's "Performative Utterances".
- Abstract
The article presents the author's views on British philosopher J.L. Austin's notion that linguistic activity is primarily a behavioral phenomenon. It mentions the activity aspects of the speech acts and Austin's critique of traditional philosophies of language dichotomy between the "constative" and "performative" functions of speech. The focus has been almost exclusively on the speaker's utterances to exclude his physical and social behavior.
