- Title
Configuring the region: maritime trade and port-hinterland relations in Bremen, 1815-1914.
- Authors
Lee, Robert
- Abstract
The article focuses on the relationship between the port-city of Bremen, Germany and its different hinterlands during 1815-1914. The relationship is determined on the basis of the political framework, the volume and pattern of trade, Bremen's contribution to the transmission of cultural innovation, and the extent and significance of population transfers. It also discusses the trading and migration and cultural exchange that highlights the relationship between port-city of Bremen and its hinterlands. The lack of detailed research on the altering relationship between urban centres and their hinterlands marks as a problem in the case of port-cities.
