- Abstract
The article discusses the roles of Nathan and Lucy Willis in reconstructing the social condition of Marion, Alabama. Nathan's extreme compassion for people degraded by centuries of bondage has prompted the American Missionary Association (AMA) to assign him and his wife Lucy to teach and preach in an AMA school attended by freedmen. The couple is dedicated to provide educational and spiritual guidance among freedmen of the state to change their lives.
