- Abstract
The article introduces the theme in this issue of "GLQ," which is the first of two consecutive issues that will focus on the visual and performing arts in gay culture. The influence of queer art and culture in the past is similar to the role of GLBT studies today which illuminate the social, sexual and creative lives of sexual minorities. "Queerness" is a category of expression, rather than a rejection of heteronormitivity. The cover art is a photograph by Michael Meads called "Aaron: As a Caravaggio VI, 1994."
