- Abstract
The article discusses a study which compared the growth velocity of total-body bone mineral content (TBMC) between African American and white children of the same sex at different ages and stages of sexual maturity. It reveals that age-specific velocities were higher in African American children during prepuberty and initial entry into puberty. It also showed that African American children spent only an average of 0.2 year longer in Tanner stages II through IV.
