- Abstract
The article discusses the costs associated with the protection of intellectual property rights as of April 2012, focusing on the economic aspects of obtaining a patent or copyright and protecting the various exclusive rights given to authors and inventors. The apparent disparity between the cost of applying for and obtaining a patent in comparison to the same process for obtaining a copyright is addressed, including issues related to the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office's examination process.
