- Authors
Hatzky, Christine
- Abstract
The article considers relations between Cuba and Angola during the period from 1976 to 1991, a time when Cuba actively supported the post-colonial African nation with both military and civil support. It focuses especially on the history of teachers and educators sent to Angola and their interactions and interpersonal relations with Angolans. Other topics considered include a comparison of Cuba and Angola as former colonies with a shared history of slavery, the theories regarding the Black Atlantic forwarded by historian Paul Gilroy, and the cross-cultural transfer of knowledge between the two nations.
