- Abstract
The article examines a curriculum unit designed to challenge students' assumptions about gender and gender roles. It suggests that ideas found in college-level courses may have appropriate applications in classrooms of much younger students. It also describes gender schemas as culturally transmitted, in which children absorb information about gender from their parents, the media, and the world around them. It adds that a gender schema allows a person to assess information easily in terms of binary relationship.
