- Title
Surface patterning: SAMs are better by design.
- Authors
Champness, Neil R.
- Abstract
The article discusses a study which showed how crystalline self-assembled monolayers (SAM) of more than one component can be patterned on the subnanometre scale. Researchers have exploited hydrogen bonding and interactions between adjacent molecular SAM components to find conditions that are suitable for the formation of the bicomponent SAM. The study investigated the formation of SAM by co-depositing different molar ratios of host and guest molecules onto a silver surface and assessing the resulting structures using scanning tunnelling microscopy.
