- Title
THE SALUTARY EXPERIENCE OF PUSHING RELIGIOUS BOUNDARIES: ABRAHAM JOSHUA HESCHEL IN CONVERSATION WITH MICHAEL BARNES.
- Authors
Boys, Mary C.
- Abstract
The article focuses on the style and ideas of Abraham Joshua Heschel and Michael Barnes on religious pluralism. It states that Heschel's idea on religious pluralism was derived from poetry, human condition awareness, and accountability to God. It tells that Heschel believes that depth theology is the most productive level of interreligious discussion, and explains the role of humans to be loving and intimate with God. Moreover, Barnes considers the need for an interior dialogue to develop honesty and willingness in interpenetration which help grow the religiosity of other people. It also notes that the two ideas differ, but in one point they merely suggest the ethical imperative of religious boundaries.
