- Abstract
The article examines the relationship between gender identity and Christianity as both are depicted in mass media. The use of motion pictures in the religious messages issued by evangelical churches is considered, particularly the patriarchal society and value system depicted in those films. A disparity is considered in which women members of evangelical churches are often critical of the use of religious texts by church leaders to support patriarchal values, they are much less critical of the same messages when depicted in motion pictures.
