- Abstract
The paper attempts to highlight the essential digital skills for new era librarians to work in digital library environment. It provides review of digital library development in different countries. It describes that the digital skills for developing digital libraries can be separated from the general technical skills. Study urges that digital librarians must be capable of both general technical skills and digital skills essentials for digital library development and management. It discussed that digital skills are categorized into two broader main categories i.e. general technical skills related to computer technology and specific digital skills for developing and managing digital contents. Study is highly valuable for librarians to acquire digital skills and become digital librarians to cope with the challenges presented by new digital era. It proposes a comprehensive map of digital skills including general technical skills and specific digital skills essentials for developing and managing digital libraries. Study recommends that librarians must obtain digital skills for developing and managing digital libraries.
