- Abstract
The article discusses the 17th century English play "Veince Preserv'd: Or, A Plot Discover'd," written by Thomas Otway. The play premiered on February 9, 1682, was performed by the Duke's Company, and the Duchess of Portsmouth, England was in attendance. The author discusses the political circumstances surrounding the writing and production of the play. The author also talks about the notion of "pathetic tragedy" and Otway's political philosophy.
