- Abstract
The article discusses the importance of communication between teachers and their students to improve reading skills. A study called "Meaningful Differences in the Everyday Experiences of Young American Children," by Betty Hart and Todd R. Risley, demonstrated how conversation can improve literacy development in children by increasing their vocabulary and reading comprehension skills. The author talked with her students about subjects related to them, which allowed her to tie their experiences to the class reading materials.
