- Abstract
The article discusses an educational framework in which children are taught reading and writing skills within meaningful contexts through poetry. Information is provided on teaching methods that use poems to aid in lessons in subjects such as history, mathematics and science. Particular attention is given to the use of poetic techniques such as rhyme, repetition, and rhythm to improve students' comprehension. Specific poems mentioned in the article include "Tyrannosaurus Was a Beast" by Jack Prelutsky, "How Do You Make a Pizza Grow?" by Eve Merriam, and "Colored boy at a carnival" by Langston Hughes.
