- Title
‘I have forgot why I did call thee back’: Editing Romeo and Juliet’s Leave-taking in the Balcony Scene.
- Authors
Erne, Lukas
- Abstract
The article presents analysis of the balcony scene in the Early Modern play "Romeo and Juliet," by William Shakespeare, focusing on the line "I have forgot why I did call thee back." Introductory details are given noting the rhetorical problems surrounding the line. It is then suggested that a word providing better context was dropped from the original edition due to a transcription error and corrected examples of 20th- and 21st-century editions with stage directions are cited as support.
