- Abstract
Nannochloropsis oculata is a green microalga containing fatty acids that can play a role in bone repair. The purpose of this study was to determine the role of Nannochloropsis oculata on the number of osteoblasts, osteoclasts and the expression of RANKL and OPG in osteoblasts. Thirty wistar rats were divided into 4 groups: normal group, periodontitis group and 1,2,3 group, namely periodontitis rats treated with Nannochloropsis oculata with concentrations of 0.625%, 1.25% and 2.5%. Periodontitis in rats was carried out by giving Porphyromonas gingivalis bacteria. After the first induction of bacteria, three weeks later the mice developed periodontitis. We examined the number of osteoblasts and osteoclasts as well as the expression of RANKL and OPG in osteoblasts. The results show that with a concentration of 0.625%, it has shown improvement in alveolar bone.
