- Abstract
The article presents a study on the prevalence of depression symptoms and associated factors in medical students from five regions of Colombia. The objective of the study was to determine the prevalence of depressive symptoms and possible related factors in these students. It was found that 70% of the studied population presented depressive symptoms, being more frequent in Bogotá. Factors associated with depression included early semesters, low socioeconomic status, tobacco and alcohol consumption, anxiety, perceived stress, lack of social support, poor sleep quality, low religiosity, and family dysfunction. It is concluded that it is necessary to implement early strategies to address these symptoms and modify risk factors.
