- Abstract
This work is an attempt to look at the Boko Haram Insurgency in the North- East part of Nigeria with a view to unraveling how the activities of these insurgents impinge on the educational and economic development of the country. The study adopts the ex-post facto research design. Data from articles, books, magazines etc. were gathered and analysed using content analysis. The findings revealed that Boko Haram insurgency adversely affects Nigeria's educational sector as it has led to the death of teachers and students alike; shortage of qualified personnel, massive destruction of school buildings and other academic facilities, exodus of academic experts from the region under review, disruption of academic calendar and the like. To this end, the study also shows that the sect's activities also have negative effects on the economy drastically, which still find negative expression on the educational sector. Based on the findings, it was recommended that religious extremism, inequality, poverty, unemployment and hunger which are the underpinning causes of insurgency should be tackled head on by the government, the civil society and other relevant stakeholders.
