- Abstract
The article presents a documentary study of identification of heavy metal concentrations in weathered tailings deposits into Gastineau Channel and determine the availability and possible effects to marine life in Juneau, Alaska. The study is for the interest to reopen the Alaska-Gastineau Mine as an option to further examination of the impact historic tailings to juvenile Tanner crabs on weathered mine tailings and to examine possible effects on survival, growth, and health of the marine animals. The study suggests reopening one of the mines adjacent to Gastineau Channel and submarine tailing disposal is a preferred option.
