- Abstract
El nitrógeno es el nutriente más importante para el desarrollo de los cultivos [1] pero también en algunas formas químicas puede ser considerado uno de los más graves problemas ambientales en los sistemas acuáticos con impactos serios a la salud humana, así como problemas de eutrofización. [2,3]. En este trabajo se presenta la síntesis de un biomaterial elaborado a partir de quitosano y cáscara de naranja mediante el método de reticulación iónica y su evaluación en pruebas de adsorción de NO3 - presente en soluciones acuosas. La caracterización de los biomateriales consistió en técnicas de microscopia electrónica de barrido (MEB), espectrometría en infrarrojo (FT-IR), fisisorción de N2, análisis termogravimétrico (TGA), punto de carga cero (PCC), distribución de carga, efecto del tiempo de contacto en la capacidad de hinchamiento y adsorción. Las pruebas de adsorción de NO3 - fueron realizadas a temperaturas de 25 y 35 °C y a valores de pH de la solución de 4, 5, 6 y 7 a fin de optimizar parámetros para maximizar la capacidad de adsorción. Los datos experimentales fueron ajustados con los modelos matemáticos de las isotermas de Freundlich y Langmuir. La caracterización indica que se obtuvo PCC de 3.9, porcentaje de hinchamiento de 208.5 %, área específica de 0.2 m2 g-1. Las pruebas experimentales demostraron que la máxima capacidad de adsorción fue de 8.9 mg g-1 a 25 ºC a pH 4.
