- Title
The Rock from Which We Were Hewn: A Story of International Congregationalism.
- Authors
Wootton, Janet
- Abstract
This is the story of those Congregationalists who have been part of the International Congregational Fellowship since its formation in 1975. Their heritage is rooted in the turmoil of the European Reformation, as it played out in the British Isles, and, later, in North America. From these bases, missionary movements took the congregational ethos, together with the Gospel, into the world. Congregationalism is a powerful form of church government, which place authority in the hands of ordinary people, called by God. The article tells stories of liberation and mission, but also of heartache, from around the world. It ends by recalling critiques of the congregational ethos -- all from the pages of the International Congregational Journal through the years.
