- Abstract
The article discusses the effects of German language support classes and the MIKA-D procedure on inclusion and exclusion in the Austrian school system. The new language support model has social and linguistic discriminatory and exclusionary effects. The MIKA-D procedure leads to exclusions and inclusions. The success rate of German language support measures is rather modest. The model of separate schooling for children with insufficient German language skills is criticized. The MIKA-D screening procedure has methodological and test-theoretical deficiencies. The evaluation of the language support model recommends further development of MIKA-D and more flexibility in German language support. The Austrian language support model leads to exclusion and neglect of German language support in regular instruction. The MIKA-D test procedure serves as a basis for educational decisions and can lead to discrimination and pedagogical consequences. An external scientific evaluation is urgently needed.
